# How we scope and price a website

Every website we build starts with a short planning session. We learn what you need, what you already have and what has to be true at launch, then give you one fixed price for the build.

## What shapes a project

No two projects are the same size. These make the biggest difference to the work involved.

- ### Timeline

A launch date sooner than the work needs means more people on the project at once.

- ### Research

Interviews, surveys and analytics reviews before design starts.

- ### Brand and marketing strategy

Positioning, audiences and messaging, so the site has something clear to say.

- ### Content writing

Writing your pages for you, rather than editing what you supply.

- ### SEO and GEO

Structure, schema, redirects and the plain facts that search and AI engines quote.

- ### Platform

Webflow and WordPress cost less to build. Headless Sanity with Next.js costs more and gives you more control.

- ### Integrations

Each connection to a CRM, donation platform, booking system or database adds build and testing time.

You own the finished website: the code, the content and the accounts.

## What projects typically cost

Our projects start at $25,000 CAD, and most land between $75,000 and $150,000, depending on the things above. Registered charities and nonprofits get 10% off, so the same budget buys more of our time.

## What every project includes

- ### Accessibility

Every site is built and tested to WCAG 2.2 AA.

- ### A site your team can run

An editor set up around your content, and training for your staff.

- ### You own it

The code, the content and the accounts are yours.

- ### Search carried over

Redirects from your old URLs, page titles, descriptions and structured data, so you keep the traffic you have.

## How long a website takes

Timelines depend most on how quickly content and decisions come back to us. Typical ranges:

- ### Focused build

    2 to 3 months.

- ### Full website

    3 to 5 months.

- ### Brand and website

    5 to 9 months.

## Care plans and hosting after launch

Most clients keep us on after launch. We price care plans and hosting with your project, because both depend on your platform and how much help you want.

- ### Updates

Platform, plugin and security updates, done for you.

- ### Daily backups

Off-server backups kept for 30 days, so we can roll back quickly.

- ### Uptime monitoring

We hear about downtime when it happens and fix it.

- ### Fixes

Bugs found after launch get fixed.

- ### Hosting

Webflow hosting, WP Engine for WordPress, or Vercel for headless sites.

- ### Ongoing SEO and GEO

We also take on ongoing SEO and GEO work, month to month.

## When we're not the right fit

If your budget is under $25,000, we're probably not the right agency for you, and we'd rather say so now. A good Webflow or Squarespace template, or an experienced freelancer, will serve you better at that size.

Not sure where you land? Send us a note anyway and we'll point you somewhere useful.

## Questions about website pricing

Our projects start at $25,000 CAD, and most land between $75,000 and $150,000. We give you one fixed price after a short planning session.

### Do you give a fixed price?

Yes. After a short planning session we give you one fixed price for the build, with monthly running costs listed separately.

### How long does a website take?

Most of our websites take 2 to 9 months, depending on scope and how quickly content and decisions come back to us.
