Organic search services
AI search visibility and generative engine optimization (GEO)
We check what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google's AI results say about your business when buyers ask, and fix what's wrong or missing. It's part of our organic search work, alongside SEO.
What GEO is, and how it differs from SEO
GEO stands for generative engine optimization. It's the work of getting AI tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews to describe your business correctly and recommend it when it fits. You'll also see it called AEO or AI search optimization.
A lot of GEO overlaps with SEO. A fast, well-built site with clear pages helps you in both. The difference is how much you can see. With SEO you can search your own keyword and check where you rank. With GEO you're trusting an AI to find the right facts about you and repeat them, and even the best models get those facts wrong regularly.
When AI gets your business wrong
More buyers now ask AI about a business before they call it, and many of them trust the answer. If the answer gets your prices, reviews or services wrong, buyers believe it, and you never find out why the call didn't come.
Say you bid on RFPs. The buyer pastes the RFP into ChatGPT with a list of candidates and asks which ones fit. If your own site doesn't say what size of client you work with or what your projects cost, the AI looks elsewhere, and a company with a similar name can end up answering for you.
AI also finds things you forgot were public: old pages that are still live, directories you joined years ago, ads you ran and blog posts other people wrote about you. When it can't find a better answer, it treats them as current. Part of GEO is finding the wrong answers before your buyers do, and fixing the sources they came from.
In the 84 days after we relaunched the CHF BC website, visits from AI tools rose 12.7 times, and 99% of them came from ChatGPT.
How we measure whether AI recommends you
We ask the AI engines the questions your buyers ask, many times over, and record what comes back.
We write the questions with you
During onboarding we work out what your buyers ask. The list depends on your industry and where you sell.
We ask them on the main AI engines
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google's AI Mode and AI Overviews.
We report how often you're named
We count how often you're named, such as 9 answers out of 10. We also record what each answer says about you and which sources it used.
We compare you with your competitors
We run the same questions for the companies you lose work to, so you can see who AI recommends instead of you.
The audit before we start
Before we agree to work together, we audit how you show up in AI answers and in Google search. It shows both of us where you're starting from.
Part of the audit is checking your website. If the site can't support this work, because of the platform it's on or how it was built, we tell you before you sign anything.
Sometimes the fix is to move the site to a faster platform during onboarding. We build with AI tools, so a move costs less than it used to, and it goes into the quote up front.
What we change
Most of the fixes happen on your own website and on the sites AI reads to learn about you.
Get your basic details right
Your name, address, phone number and business categories should match everywhere, starting with your Google Business Profile. AI tools pull these details from many places, and when they don't match, the answers get muddled.
Make your site easy for AI to read
We make sure search and AI tools can read your pages, and add labels in the page code that say who you are and what you sell. Each service and location gets its own clear page.
Answer your buyers' questions on your own site
Plain answers to what buyers ask, including what drives your price, backed by real numbers and examples. If your site doesn't answer a question, AI will find an answer somewhere else.
Get mentioned on the sites AI relies on
Reviews on Google, plus the review sites and directories for your industry that AI answers often quote. We help you get listed and keep those profiles up to date.
Check that AI describes you correctly
We check what each engine says about your prices, services and reviews, and trace wrong answers back to the page they came from.
What we won't do
Guarantee you'll be recommended
Nobody controls what ChatGPT or Google's AI says, so we can't promise a spot.
Buy reviews or list placements
We'll help you ask happy clients for reviews and get onto the lists that accept submissions.
Mass-produce AI pages
Publishing hundreds of thin AI-written pages aimed at keywords breaks Google's spam rules and can drag down the rest of your site.
Post fake comments on Reddit or forums
Posing as customers is dishonest, and when it's found out it damages your reputation.
Report results you can't check
Every result we report comes with the numbers behind it, so you can check our work.
Monthly reporting
Every month you get a report and a call with your account manager.
A monthly call
You go through the results with your account manager and agree on what happens next.
A client portal and dashboard
You can see your numbers whenever you like, without waiting for the report.
A written monthly report
What changed this month and what we recommend doing next.
Numbers agreed at the start
We set them together during onboarding, tied to your revenue, and keep them steady so you can compare one month with the next.
How much does GEO cost?
Monthly retainer
$3,000 to $10,000a month
Larger organizations and those with more locations sit at the higher end.
Your size and number of locations
Each location needs its own listings, pages and checks.
The state of your website
A site that needs fixing or moving takes more work up front.
How much you sell, and where
More services, products or markets means more buyer questions to track.
How crowded your market is
When many competitors chase the same buyers, it takes more work to get named.
Onboarding can cost more than a regular month, because that's when any website fixes happen. You'll know both prices before you sign.
The six-month review
If we haven't shown our value after six months, we sit down together and re-plan. That could mean changing the work or ending the contract.
Questions about AI search visibility
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend us?
No. Nobody controls what AI tools say, and the answers change from one run to the next. We measure how often you're named, fix the reasons you're left out or described wrongly, and show you the numbers every month.
Is GEO different from SEO?
Partly. Both need a fast site with clear, useful pages, so a lot of the work overlaps. GEO adds checking what AI says about you, correcting wrong answers, and getting you onto the review sites, directories and lists that AI tools rely on.
Do we need an llms.txt file?
Maybe. An llms.txt file is a plain-text summary of your site written for AI tools. Some AI tools read these files and others ignore them, so we test it during the audit. It won't fix your visibility on its own.
How long does GEO take to work?
First changes usually show within a few months, and the six-month review is the real checkpoint. Fixes like correcting your business details can show up in AI answers fairly quickly, while earning reviews and mentions takes longer.
Which AI engines do you track?
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google's AI Mode and AI Overviews.
How much does GEO cost?
Most GEO retainers with us run $3,000 to $10,000 a month, depending on your size, number of locations and the state of your website. Onboarding can cost more, because it includes any website fixes.
